We are growing our team and are excited to welcome a Programme Coordinator based in South Africa to help deliver and develop CCF’s expanding training programmes and assist elsewhere on CCF projects. This is a unique opportunity to work with conservation organisations, technology partners and training experts to build the skills and capacity of the people working to protect wildlife and natural ecosystems. You’ll play a key role in the successful delivery of our Protected Area Technician (PAT) Training Programme, while helping us develop new courses, practical training opportunities and capacity-building initiatives.

• Location: Remote / work from home in South Africa, with some travel required
• Hours: Part-time: 2.5 - 3 days per week (Mondays mandatory, with flexible day allocation for the rest)

Connected Conservation Foundation (CCF) is looking for an organised, proactive and digitally confident Training and Capacity Building Coordinator to support the delivery and development of CCF’s expanding training programmes. 

Our first programme is called the Protected Area Technician (PAT) Training Programme (Learn more here). The PAT programme is designed to build the skills and capacity of Protected Area Technicians through a combination of online learning and practical, hands-on field training and internships. Due to the successful growth of the programme, this role will be responsible for helping to ensure that both our online courses and in-field practical sessions are well organised, engaging, and provide a high-quality and accessible experience for students.

This is a varied role that combines online learning administration, student support, course development and logistics coordination in the field. The role suits someone who enjoys working across different areas, is comfortable working independently and has excellent organisational, communication and digital skills. 

Primary Responsibilities

Online Learning & Student Support: 

• Maintain and update Moodle, the PAT online learning platform and website, ensuring information and course materials remain accurate, accessible and up to date.
• Manage student enrolment, registration and access permissions.
• Provide day-to-day support to students using the online platform, helping with access, navigation and managing our general enquiries inbox.
• Analyse learner engagement, participation, progress, completion and assessment data.
• Identify trends, barriers to completion and areas for improvement.
• Produce regular reports and insights for CCF programme management, funders and partners.
• Download assessment results and maintain accurate records of student marks and completion.
• Proactively identify students who are struggling, inactive or at risk of dropping out.
• Personalise and issue certificates to students who complete their training.
• Gather student feedback and use it to improve the learning experience.
• Manage translations of course materials into French
• Deactivate/archive accounts where appropriate.
• Monitor platform functionality and identify/report technical issues.
• Liaise with Moodle/platform providers or IT support to resolve issues.
• Support platform updates, testing and improvements.

Course Development & Content:

• Source, manage and upload new course content, modules, learning materials, assessments and associated digital PAT content.
• Work with CCF staff, trainers and subject matter experts to develop, update and organise course content and develop new ideas
• Assist with creating, editing and uploading presentations, videos, documents, quizzes and assessments.

Practical Training

The PAT programme also includes in-field practical training, where students come together for approximately two weeks of hands-on field-based learning. The role will support the planning and delivery of these training programmes, including:

• Coordinating travel, including flights and other transport arrangements for in-field learners.
• Supporting accommodation and other logistical arrangements.
• Organising equipment, training materials and other practical requirements.
• Coordinating and looking after guest speakers, trainers and external contributors.
• Developing schedules and communicating practical information to students and trainers.
• Providing support to students and trainers during the practical training.
• Travelling to practical training events as required (may include occasional international travel).
• Budgeting and reconciliation of finances.
• Equipment ordering, storing and inventory management.

Additional Responsibilities

• Support the wider CCF team with education and other conservation technology projects where appropriate.
• Stakeholder communications: Send internal communications and updates to learners, in-field placements and partners when needed.
• Work with the Communications and Press Manager to help communicate the success of the course, including collating testimonies and photos of trainers and learners in the field.
• Work with the Communications and Press Manager to help market new and upcoming online courses and paid-for training placements.
• Research and recommend fundraising opportunities to help secure long-term funding for sustained training and course growth.

As a small organisation, collaboration is important. Team members are expected to be flexible and willing to support each other across different areas of CCF's work.

Working Arrangements

This is a part-time position of 2.5 - 3 days per week, working primarily from home in South Africa. Some travel will be required, particularly to support the practical PAT training programme. The timing and location of travel will depend on the training schedule. 

Essential Skills & Qualifications

• Relevant higher education degree or local equivalent in conservation, IT or other relevant field
• Must live in South Africa and have a valid passport.
• Proactive, with a passion for conservation.
• Excellent organisational and administrative skills, with exemplary attention to detail.
• Confident using websites, online platforms and digital tools, with the ability to learn new systems quickly.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, providing friendly and responsive support
• Confident in stakeholder communications: from seeking new trainers to selling courses to students and reporting to donors.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, tasks and deadlines effectively.
• Strong problem-solving skills and a practical, solutions-focused approach.
• Ability to work independently and manage your own time while working remotely.
• Some experience coordinating training, events, workshops or similar programmes.
• Willingness and ability to travel when required.

Desirable Experience

The following would be advantageous: 

• Experience working with an online learning platform or Learning Management System (LMS), website content, particularly through platforms such as Moodle, WordPress, etc.
• Experience coordinating training or events.
• Experience working in either technology, conservation, protected area management, wildlife or environmental education.
• Experience working with international partners or across different countries and cultures.

We are not necessarily looking for someone who has experience in every area of the role. A strong organiser with good digital skills, initiative and a willingness to learn could thrive in this position.
